Lincoln went through a restyling for the 1956 model year. The fresh design featured styling cues taken from the XL-500 and the XM-800 show cars. In addition to the styling changes, a new car was added to the Lincoln lineup, the Premiere. The Premiere was the mid-range option in the Lincoln line, falling above the Capri, but below the Continental Mark II. For 1956 the Premiere featured similar styling to the Capri, it was offered in three body styles. In 1957, the Premiere was offered in four body styles, the rarest of which was the two-door convertible, with Lincoln only producing 3,676 such examples.
In the 1950s there was a big push for added safety in automobiles, so much so that period advertising promoted the 1957 Lincoln Premiere’s powerful 300-hp V-8 engine as a “safety feature.” In many respects, powering out of a situation can indeed be a safety measure, so truth in advertising prevails. Nineteen fifty-seven marked the last year of the beautifully styled first generation Lincoln Premiere.
This 1957 Lincoln Premiere Convertible is presented in an attractive yellow tone with chrome accents and a white convertible top. The car rides on whitewall tires with factory wheel covers. The vehicle is powered by a 368-cid, 300-hp V-8 engine which is paired to an automatic transmission. Power options on the car include top, windows and steering. The interior features what is reported to be its original white leather; you’ll enjoy the ambiance of the open ride while listening to the period AM radio. The Lincoln Premiere has been mechanically restored, after reportedly being parked in a Glendale, Arizona garage for 20 years.
