The Lincoln Continental name is synonymous with American luxury. Nineteen sixty-one marked the first year of the fourth-generation Lincoln Continental, and with it came a radical redesign by Ford Design Vice President Elwood Engel. The most notable aspect of the new Lincoln was its size. It was much smaller than the outgoing model, and the smallest car produced by Lincoln since before World War II. One of the more notable design cues from the fourth-generation Lincoln Continental was their rear-hinged suicide doors. While they look great, they actually served a purpose. In testing engineers had trouble exiting the car with normally mounted rear doors. Their solution, rather than adding length to the car was to mount the doors with a rear hinge.

This 1961 Lincoln Continental four-door convertible sedan is presented in Wimbledon White with a new black canvas convertible power top. The car has had a very nice professional repaint which is accented nicely by refurbished chrome and stainless trim. The car rides on BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall tires with Lincoln logo wheel covers. The car is powered by a V-8 engine paired to an automatic transmission. The interior features a medium blue interior with wood accents. It’s appointed with AM radio, day/night rearview mirror, power seat and windows, as well as a beautiful wood-grained steering wheel. Driver aides include power steering and brakes. This is a very collectible car as it’s the first year of the fourth-generation 1960s design with only 2,857 similar examples built.
