The Land Rover G4 Challenge was a global adventure competition, and as the successor to the Camel Trophy it has off-road driving at its core. The G4 Challenge was to be run in support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The 18-month programme began with National Selections held within each participating nation, followed by an International Selections event at Eastnor Castle in the UK.
Each stage of the Challenge included athletic activities such as mountain biking, kayaking, rock-climbing, abseiling, trail running and rope work as well as off-road driving.18 nations participated in the 2006 G4 Challenge which was staged across Thailand, Laos, Brazil and Bolivia. Land Rover delivered a more vehicle-focused event in 2006. South African adventure racer Martin Dreyer was the eventual winner of the event.
This rare V8 engined Discovery 3 was one of 39 examples used for the 2006 G4 Challenge and is fitted with nearly every accessory available. They were used in almost every way conceivable - in Stages 1 and 2, 15 vehicles were used for Press and with 2 as permanent workshops, whilst in Stages 3 and 4, 22 vehicles were used as Team, Support, Workshops and Recce Vehicles. A single vehicle appeared in Brazil as part of the 'fan' of cars shown at the edge of the beach.
This vehicle was one of the official press cars driven by Sarah Batten who was head of Marketing at Land Rover at the time.
Following the 2006 G4 Challenge, Land Rover sold the car to Sytner Manchester when it was 2 years old and Sytner used it as a showroom display and promotional events. The file contains full details of warranty work and general maintenance carried out by Sytner together with MOT history from DVLA which confirms the mileage of just 12400.
The previous MoT ran out in November 2018 and following an extensive two-year re-commissioning, it has a fresh MoT with no advisories. There were various minor mechanical issues and electrical problems together with a new set of G4 specific tyres fitted at a total expenditure in excess of £6000. This must be the lowest mileage example available in the current market and as a right hand drive V8 model an extremely rare and collectable piece of Land Rover history. Consigned by Dominic Lake.
