  • Lancia’s revolutionary design, featuring a monocoque chassis and independent suspension
  • Retained by The Curated Collection for more than 10 years
  • Eligible for the Mille Miglia Storica and other historic rally and touring events

At a time when most vehicles had a heavy body-on-frame design, Lancia’s steel monocoque structure for the Lambda was nothing short of revolutionary. Now known as unibody construction, the design is used in almost every modern production car. Also pioneered on the Lambda was independent front suspension, radically transforming the driving experience.

Nine versions of the Lambda were built, with 3,903 cars produced between 1928 and 1930 for the penultimate—and most successful—series. Powered by the enlarged 2,570-cc V-4 engine, eighth-series cars were capable of a 120 km/h top speed. Though not designed as a sports car, this impressive performance led to competitive success; in the 1928 Mille Miglia, such a car in short-wheelbase Spider configuration placed 3rd overall.

The example here is a Torpedo Lungo, a long-wheelbase eighth-series car. Little is known of its early ownership, but in 2002 it was owned by a J.P. Brassine of Lasne, Belgium, who retained the car until 2013 when it was purchased by The Curated Collection. Presented today in striking blue over red leather interior, this Torpedo Lunga offers an excellent opportunity to own a piece of motoring innovation, and could be enjoyed on a range of tours and events, including the Mille Miglia Storica.
