Taking the baton from the Diablo as Lamborghini’s flagship V-12 sportscar, the Murcielago hit the scenes in North America for the 2002 model year as a coupe only. The first all-new model in 11 years, it was also the first car produced under the ownership of the Volkswagen Group, who gave charge of the iconic Italian brand to Audi. Lamborghini was quick to offer a roadster and continued building on the Murcielago with more powerful variants and special editions. Indeed, it proved to be one of the manufacturer’s most popular supercars, with 3,983 built between 2001 and 2010, and some 304 coupes made in 2004.
Seen on Season 6, Episode 1 of “Counting Cars,” this stealthy, all-black Lamborghini Murcielago was once owned by DJ Ashba, the former lead guitarist of Guns N’ Roses, lending it a sweet patina of celebrity creed. Showing 15,968 miles at the time of consignment, the Murcielago is powered by a 6.2L V-12 engine with a gated 6-speed manual transmission. The car presents stealthily in Satin Black protected by a clear film, with the noir look sustained by the black, five-spoke, 18-inch Speedline wheels shod with Pirelli P Zero tires and a black interior upholstered in leather and microsuede.
DJ Ashba added his crest to the headrests with custom embroidery, and the car is fitted with a rearview camera, inboard seatbelts, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an Alpine head unit feeding an aftermarket amplifier. Bringing a little control to the scene, the Murcielago employs active dampers, Xenon headlights, and 4-wheel disc brakes with cross-drilled brake rotors and red calipers.
