  • 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400 “Prima Serie”

According to the ‘Certificate of Vehicle Original Configuration’ issued by Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. on the 3rd of August 2016, this car came out of the factory in ‘Rosso Miura’ with ‘Senape’ (mustard) upholstery, which matches its current configuration. This certificate also indicates that it was fitted with engine no. 1253, which is still the one it has today. It is one of 474 Miura P400 examples manufactured between 1966 and 1970 and one of around 125 ‘Prima Serie’ examples that featured the elegance and purity of early versions, with thinner and therefore lighter aluminium bodywork. This makes it the most high-performing Miura, thanks to a very favorable power-to-weight ratio.

This car was delivered new to the Foitek garage in Zurich (owned by former Swiss racing driver Karl Foitek) and was reportedly exhibited a few months later at the 1968 Geneva Motor Show. In 1976, it crossed the Atlantic to join the collection of John A. Andrews of Reston (Virginia) who sold it in 1989 to Mr Prevosti, an important Italian collector who brought it back to his country, where it remained in his possession until 2007 when he sold part of his collection at auction in London. At that time, it was completely restored to its original colour scheme and the interior was also redone according to its original specification.

In 2007, it was acquired by a German enthusiast who entrusted it to Peter Rosenmayer's Sport & Race Cars garage near Stuttgart for a complete overhaul of the engine and gearbox, in accordance with the original configuration. Invoices for this work are included in the file and total more than €100,000. After its restoration in 2013, James Weddle from Missouri bought the car and took it to the Miura 50th Anniversary at Pebble Beach in 2016 where it was certified by Lamborghini Polo Storico (document in the file). There, the vehicle identifcation numbers were confirmed.

It was purchased in 2013 by its current owner (a major German collector and Lamborghini enthusiast), who had it cosmetically restored to perfection, which is exactly how it looks today. The paintwork is stunning and features gold wheel rims and underbody panels, as per the original. In fact, Ferruccio Lamborghini's personal Miura had these features with gold rims. It is equipped with Miura SV wheels at the rear, which offer the aesthetic advantage of a better fit around the wheel arches, although original wheels will also be supplied with the car. Right and left doors, the rear bonnet, each wing and the front bonnet bear the same correct production number 48.

These details demonstrate the authenticity of this Miura from the very first series. It also comes with a history file including numerous restoration, parts and servicing invoices, restoration photos, various old registration documents, a TÜV roadworthiness certificate valid until December 2027, certificates mentioned above, a Lamborghini Polo Storico certificate and documentation about the brand. The Miura became a legendary icon, revolutionising the world of sports cars with its groundbreaking design and questioning the supremacy of Ferrari, who had been the unrivalled market leader until then.

This rare and sought-after ‘Prima Serie’ model is identical to the first model that stunned the world when it was first launched, featuring Marcello Gandini’s original design in all its purity. As well as having probably been exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show, it is also in immaculate condition and includes all its original numbers, which reflects its historical importance and will make it stand out at the most prestigious concours, classic car events and of course to the 60th Anniversary of the model in 2026! This lot is sold VAT excluded.

The VAT can be refund to any European registered company in car business which acquired it at auction, providing it holds a VAT European registration number and it can prove the lot has been transported to his country of residence.
