Showing 1,119 miles on the odometer, this 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder is finished in a stunning shade of green with a power-operated black convertible top and a black interior with green piping and stitching. The 520 HP generated by the 5.0L V-10 engine is distributed by an automatic transmission through an all-wheel drive system, providing exceptional grip and handling characteristics. The interior treats occupants to dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, carbon fiber appointments and a number of modern accoutrements. Rolling on 10-spoke alloy wheels with low-profile tires, this car presents beautifully.
While the Gallardo is often associated with a new chapter in Lamborghini history, its origins date back to the 1970s, when Ferruccio Lamborghini himself began toying with the idea of a smaller, friendlier model. The idea was a more affordable car that could be driven daily, a car that would exhibit exceptional efficiency, driving simplicity, comfort and technical superiority without losing sight of being a Lamborghini. Indeed, while the Islero of 1968 brought with it a certain size and exceptional visibility, it was powered by the V-12 engine and was quite expensive. That was followed up with the Jarama, which again, while the size was spectacular, was powered by the V-12.
Finally, for 1972, the Urraco was introduced. With exotic but manageable styling and a compact V-8 engine, Ferruccio’s idea of a daily Lamborghini began to take shape. The Silhouette and similar Jalpa would follow suit but end production, leaving Lamborghini with only flagship cars. It wouldn’t be until 1998 when the idea of using a V-10 for a smaller, more daily friendly car would come into play with design work commencing in 2000 and ultimately resulting in the omnipresent Gallardo, which debuted in 2003. Spanning 10 years of production and a multitudinous number of submodels, the Gallardo became Lamborghini’s best-selling car ever with more than 14,000 units sold worldwide.
