Following correspondence with Lamborghini Polo Storico, a newly issued build sheet kept on file confirms that this Countach retains its matching-numbers engine.

Seeking to commemorate the 25th birthday of the most renowned car to bear the Lamborghini name, the Countach 25th Anniversary was revealed for the first time at the 1988 Italian Grand Prix. This new Countach retained the same visual panache and performance of the existing 5000 QV but featured roughly 500 subtle changes and improvements intended to increase passenger comfort and refine style.

Horacio Pagani, then an employee of Lamborghini, was tasked with redesigning the bodywork. This included the raising of the nose and re-engineering the air intakes to improve the channelling of air towards the front brakes. At the rear of the car, the bumper received subtle styling changes. The air intakes located just behind the doors received thicker strakes that were painted in the body colour, rather than the traditional finish of black. Furthermore, the 15-inch wheels were fabricated as two-piece forged alloy units, and were wider than those fitted to the 5000 QV.

Inside, Lamborghini replaced the Countach’s relatively basic manually operated windows with power-operated units. Furthermore, both seats were equipped with power-adjustable backs to increase driver and passenger comfort. A newer steering wheel was fitted, and the 25th Anniversary Countach was graced with a more powerful air-conditioning system.

This example, built in the final year of production of the Lamborghini Countach, left the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory in March 1990. Finished in Rosso with Champagne upholstery, chassis number 12961 was dispatched to the supplying dealer Achilli Motors in Milan, Italy. The supercar was first registered by Achilli Motors on 30 March 1990, and later changed hands between various dealerships, where it was repainted in Giallo, being sold to its first private owner—a notable lawyer for one of Italy's largest automotive manufacturers—and already a collector of rare Ferraris. The handwritten bill of sale on file confirms the date of the sale as 9 April 1993.

Up until his death, the first owner was fastidious in maintaining and caring for his Lamborghini, garaging it at a private secure facility and having it regularly serviced by the notable Italian mechanic, Sergio Rossi.

Following the owner's death, his eldest son—who shared his father's passion for the Countach—took over care of the Lamborghini. He started to use the supercar, though he claims only in the months of March to September, and allegedly never in the rain. Photographs on file from 1993 depict the original owner’s two sons with this Lamborghini, sharing a snapshot of the importance of this vehicle within the family.

The car continued to be garaged at the storage facility when not in use, and was regularly maintained by Sergio Rossi, as shown by invoices on file, thereby continuing the meticulous care and maintenance regime that his father started back in 1993. Up until March 2020, the eldest son regularly used this Countach 25th Anniversary for travelling between Turin and Monaco, along with visiting friends and relatives. Like his father, he enjoyed driving this Italian supercar as Lamborghini had envisaged when they first launched the Countach back in 1974. Following the onset of COVID-19, the car remained in its storage facility and will require servicing before it is ready to be driven on the roads once more.

Today, chassis number 12961 remains in the same colour combination as when it was purchased in 1993, the only difference being that the odometer now reads just 27,495 km from new. Lamborghini has confirmed the car retains its matching-numbers engine. Accompanying the vehicle is documentation outlining correspondence with Automobile Club d’Italia, the original bill of sale, selected invoices, and a Lamborghini leather folio containing the service book and user manual. Having remained in the care of just one family since 1993, it is clear this Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary is an example with a charming story. Coupled with its rare Giallo colour, history file, and period photographs, it is ready for the next chapter of its life with a new owner.
