Introduced at Lamborghini’s factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, the official unveiling of Lamborghini’s Aventador occurred at the Geneva Motor Show on February 28, 2011, five months later. Designed to replace the Murcielago, the Aventador marked a return to the absolutist design language set forth by the Countach in 1974. Riddled with sharp angles, creases and flat surfaces, the Aventadors hardened look was unlike anything on the road, but it took several cues from both the Countach and Murcielago, while adopting various elements from the Estoque concept car and limited-edition Reventon and engaging its own, unique language.
The Aventador saw 5,000 sales by 2016, exceeding the company’s goals, and by the time production ceased in 2022, it was known as one of Lamborghini’s most successful flagship cars. This 2012 shows about 5,123 miles on the odometer and is fitted with the 6.5L/691 HP 48-valve DOHC V-12 engine with an ISR 7-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, a combination worth speeds of well over 200 MPH. It’s finished in a red-orange with high-gloss black wheels and a two-tone red and black interior, and orange calipers bite down on massive rotors.
The car is accompanied by a factory battery tender, a factory car cover, the owner’s manual, receipts for service by Graham Rahal Performance and an orange Lamborghini hat. When Ferruccio Lamborghini entered the car making business, he had a soft spot for well-engineered, high-powered, comfortable grand-touring cars, hence the first editions from Lamborghini—the 350GT and 400GT. While these were handsome and impressive cars, it was the radically styled two-seat Miura that largely put Lamborghini on the map and impressed the point that the company meant business in the supercar industry.
Interestingly, for such a new company, Lamborghini largely defined the term supercar with the Countach, the car upon which seemingly all subsequent Lamborghini flagship models have been based, with a longitudinally positioned V-12 engine behind the driver, a short front end all brought together by hand.
