German title - One of only three Lamborghini 400 GT conversions - Very high quality manufacturing - Combining high performance and driving pleasure in open-air - No reserve Following the launch of the Lamborghini 350 GT at the Geneva Motor Show in 1964, the coachbuilder Touring (to whom Ferrucio Lamborghini had entrusted the creation of the bodywork) thought that offering a convertible version was maybe a good idea. Following an agreement with the factory, this is how he produced two 350 GTS (aka 350 GT Spyder) which both was exhibited at the Turin Motor Show in 1965. The black one was on the coachbuilder's stand and the other metallic bronze one was on the Lamborghini stand.

Despite its extremely attractive appearance, this project did not go ahead perhaps due to the lack of public interest or maybe due to Lamborghini's reluctance to launch a new model at a time when it was still a new manufacturer on the market. In 1982, Automobili Lamborghini SpA carried out a transformation of a 350 GT into a 350 GTS for a French customer, which brought the number of "official" 350 GTS examples to three. For those who were seduced by this bodywork and wanted to buy one, there was no more hope unless… if a conversion was created. And that's exactly what the Scottsdale - Arizona-based restaurateur Jerry Fandytis did when he made two of them in the 1990s.

He started from a 400 GT 2+2 base, removed the roof and then converted it into a convertible, alongside creating a suitable convertible top which was able to retract at the rear. This particular example is one of these two cars. Bearing chassis number 01267, it was delivered new on the 6th November 1967 to Lamborcar Milano who sold it to its first owner Dr. Sampietro. It was then used as a foundation for Jerry Fandytis' conversion. In 1999, it took part in the Concorso Italiano and was subsequently seen at the Pebble Beach Concours of Elegance and the Lamborghini 50th anniversary in Italy.

In 2010, Harbor Auto Restauration based in Rockledge (Florida) carried out an interior refresh, replaced the water pump and completed a major service. It was acquired in 2014 by the current owner who saw this car as the perfect addition to his Lamborghini collection, which included most of the Santa Agata production models. This spyder was therefore included in its garage next to a 350/400 GT Interim, a 400 GT coupe and a 350 GT coupe, which resulted in bringing together the quartet of Lamborghini GT cars. This car is today in remarkable condition, especially considering that this conversion was carried out to a standard exceeding factory requirement.

The black paint has no flaws, the interior is magnificently preserved (including the leather, Nardi steering wheel or the Wilson wool carpet) and the chrome is impeccable. Mechanically this car is equipped with its original and famous 4 liter V12 engine and 6 Weber carburettors, which were designed by Giotto Bizzarrini and can reach a top speed of 270 km/h (350 GTS only 250 km/h). Since this restoration in the 90s, the car has been driven around 6000 km. The speedometer currently shows 20 km after replacing the mileage speedometer in 2015.

This high-end car combines outdoor driving fun with a powerful engine and is incredibly rare, as there are only five examples of the Lamborghini GTS models in total (2 from the 60s, 1 from the 80s and 2, the best, from the 90s) with such a body. This stunning and meticulously maintained Lamborghini GTS Spyder offers a comprehensive history and a unique opportunity that connoisseurs of the world's best and most distinctive exotic Italian cars cannot miss. This car will be welcomed with open arms at most prestigious historic events and will also provide great driving pleasure for both short journeys or long-distance road trips. Photos © Peter Singhof
