Many decades ago, no one would have believed that supercharged Jeeps would become something one could buy right from the dealership. The original war-time utility machine grew up and became something much more evolved than for what it was originally designed. This 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk shows just 963 miles on its odometer. The Trackhawk, in a word, was a rage, putting out the sort of horsepower only dreamed of in the muscle car era, all while using a platform usually suited for off-road use. However, off-road here also meant the quarter-mile, as the 6.2L/707 HP V-8 supercharged Hellcat engine is under the hood, capable of 0-60 MPH in less than 4 seconds and 11-second ETs.
It is coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission and the Quad-Trac 4-wheel drive, working in conjunction with the electronic limited-slip rear differential, Bilstein competition shocks and active damping suspension. Here, Brembo performance brakes with yellow calipers help bring it from brute beast to a stop. The paint color selected was Diamond Black Crystal Pearl with matched black Laguna leather interior appointments. That meant the Signature leather-wrapped interior package, eight-way power driver and passenger seats that are heated and ventilated, heated rear seats and the power tilt and telescoping steering column with a heated steering wheel.
There is adaptive cruise control with stop, blind spot and rear cross-traffic detection, the ParkView rearview camera, and remote start capability as well. Monitoring all of this is the Uconnect 4C 8.4-inch display featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and coupled to the high-performance audio package with Harman Kardon 19-speaker sound system with subwoofer and 825-watt amplifier. Outside, the only warning the unsuspecting get is the little gate-mounted Trackhawk emblem, the “Supercharged” insignia on each door and split dual exhaust exits.
Keeping the way ahead clear are the Bi-Xenon HID headlamps, and this Trackhawk has 20×10-inch forged polished face wheels that show off the big brakes and wear large-diameter Pirelli Scorpion tires. Accompanying this Trackhawk are an extra key, a window sticker and a brochure. Dressed up in stealth mode and packing a wallop, this Trackhawk showcases Jeep’s upscale side with a bite.
