The XK120’s introduction at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show was a sensation, immediately overshadowing the sporting sedans that were Jaguar’s bread and butter. A journalist in attendance commented that “all preconceived notions as to what was a series-production sports car disappeared overnight.” William Lyons, never one to miss a commercial opportunity, recognized the XK120’s potential and commissioned tooling for steel bodywork so that the car could be produced in quantity.

The XK120’s body was a fresh, minimalist design with gracefully flowing curves, while the modern chassis provided excellent handling. The new car’s model designation, intended to represent its top speed, proved an understatement when factory test driver Ron Sutton was clocked on a Belgian road at over 130 mph.

Chassis number 673913 was completed on April 22nd, 1953 and delivered the next month to Vancouver, Canada. The car is stunningly finished in Ivory White with a black hide interior and wire wheels. This example has also been tastefully upgraded for an improved driving experience. The 3.4-liter has been upgraded with an electric cooling fan, larger valves and springs, and performance camshafts with new cam buckets, as well as 9.5:1 forged pistons. It has also been ported, polished, and balanced with a high performance harmonic balancer. Additionally, it has a five-speed gearbox, an alloy flywheel, and a new 10.5-inch clutch. The suspension bushings have also been replaced, along with all new flexible brake lines.

With excellent performance, handling, and balance, XK120s are wonderful driver’s cars and an absolute joy to drive. This example is sure to offer its next enthusiast owner those same thrills, be it on a country road or a leisurely weekend trip.
