First appearing at the 1973 London Motor Show, it wasn’t until two years later that Jaguar’s XJ Coupé – or XJ-C – finally made it to production. These wonderfully spacious-feeling coupés were a real side-step away from the standard four-door saloon that had been the mainstay of Jaguar since 1968. A wonderfully well-conceived tourer oozing class, the XJ-C became the Coventry flagship and was priced even higher than its more standardised cousin, thus becoming a real collector’s item. With its vinyl roof and plentiful glass, it still turns the heads of classic car collectors today.

This example, presented in British Racing Green, is well travelled. Initially sold via Lex Mead in Bristol, it was comprehensively serviced there, as its well-stamped Jaguar Passport will testify, before being exported to New Zealand where it remained until 1992. The car was then transported to the Netherlands in 2008, before our vendor then purchased it in 2016. He brought it back to British soil that same year and has enjoyed it ever since. It started on the button when viewed and proved its mettle recently on a trip to Le Mans and Goodwood. The chromework is excellent as is the paintwork although there is some very minor bubbling in places.

The wheel discs also show some minor corrosion although these are easy to replace and may even polish out. A new exhaust was fitted in 1993 and the doors show no drop with excellent shut-lines all round. The interior is in fairly good order with no tears, but some loose stitching is present on the passenger side. The dash is in largely good order with only minor varnish cracking. A little investment and the resultant and collectable XJ-C would be a very good example indeed. Consigned by Edward-Bridger-Stille
