Chassis No.: 773598B/N

Engine No.: MC684818

Registration: YLK 827

The Jaguar Mk. IX was produced between 1959 and 1961 and replaced the previous Mk. VIII. Standard transmission was a four-speed manual system; options included overdrive but most cars were built with a Borg Warner three-speed automatic gearbox. Internally, an enlarged-bore 3.8 litre, 220bhp DOHC straight-six replaced the previous 3.4 litre unit with two SU carburettors were fitted. Four-wheel servo assisted Dunlop disc brakes and recirculating ball power steering was now standard equipment. The torsion bar independent front suspension and leaf-sprung rear live axle were retained from the Mk. VIII.

The body was generally similar to its predecessor, although a sunshine roof became a standard fitting for the UK market. The interior was in the same luxurious mode with extensive use of leather, walnut wood trim and deep pile carpet. The Mk. IX's power and good brakes for a vehicle of that era, together with its undoubtedly impressive aesthetic appearance, makes it quite a common choice for the classic car market.

Manufactured on 30th December 1959 and first registered on 13th January 1960, this Jaguar presents in British Racing Green with Suede Green interior. The Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirms the supplying dealer was Henlys in London and that the registration number of YLK 827 has been on the car from new. From the history file and tax disc on the car, it looks like this Mk. IX was taken off the road in 1971 and put into storage, the indications are the mileage of 58,608 could well be correct but is not warranted. Recently recommissioned we are advised this Jaguar runs and drives with no known faults.

The vendor on his first outing drove the car from The Midlands to the South coast without it missing a beat. Even the overdrive unit on the gearbox functioned correctly. Supplied with a V5C registration document, a collection of invoices and some previous MoT test certificates the last one was issued on 10th August 1971 with the mileage at that stage being 54,668. These are aesthetically charming vehicles with British design and engineering at its best.
