The Jaguar E-Type was a timeless classic from its inception in 1961. The combination of sleek race-inspired design, a monocoque body, a relatively affordable price point and a 150 MPH top speed forever changed the sports car market. The year 1971 marked the advent of the Series III E-type and a major departure in the makeup of the iconic British roadster with only the second production engine in the history of the Jaguar company. The long-running dual overhead camshaft inline-6 cylinder engine was supplanted by a newly developed 5.3-liter V-12 engine.
The engine was quite literally engineered by merging two six-cylinder engines into a powerhouse fueled by four Zenith carburetors, which made for a factory-rated 256 HP and over 300 lb-ft. torque at just 3,600 revolutions per minute. The Series III may have gained some girth on its svelte predecessors, but the roadster scaled in at under 3,400 pounds, in line with modern standards and with V-12 power under the long hood. The combination of horsepower and style carried on, and Jaguar still boasted a 150 MPH top speed for its Series III E-type. This E-type in White features the optional automatic transmission and just under 56,000 miles on the odometer.
The White-on-Dark Blue interior has been reconditioned with new leather seats, sun visors, uprated radio, and fresh protective floor mats. Chrome bumpers and rear luggage rack are an added bonus. The roadster comes with the removable hardtop as well as a new Black soft top. That a single owner enjoyed the timeless appeal of this sleek roadster for almost a quarter of a century is easy to understand.
