The Honda S2000 was manufactured from 1999 until 2009, first shown as a concept car called the SSM at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1995, the production version was launched on April 15, 1999 to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary. The S2000 is named for its engine displacement of two litres, while "S" stood for "sports" carrying on in the tradition of the S500, S600, and S800 roadsters of the 1960s. Several revisions were made throughout the car's production life, including changes to the engine, gearbox, suspension, interior and exterior with production ceased on August 19, 2009.
The Honda S2000 was notable for its exceptional specific power output of about 124 hp per litre, or about two horsepower per cubic inch, the highest of any mass production, naturally aspirated engined car at the time.
The S2000 has since become a legitimate modern classic car, having seen a significant appreciation in price for valued examples in good condition. In the JDM community and the car community as a whole, the most sought-after models are special edition productions such as the CR (Club Racer) in the USA market while the standard AP1 and AP2 models have achieved collectible status as well.
This AP2 example was purchased by our vendor as a retirement gift on the 24th June 2009, the original order form tells us it was specified with full body cover and front and rear parking sensors and although with a list price of £27,050 and due to being one of the last S2000’s to be sold, it was discounted to a final price of £21,655. Presented in New Formula Red with Black leather and soft top, this example has been maintained by Trident Honda in Ottershaw, the supplying dealer, with four service stamps until 2014; since then our vendor driving less frequently, has had a local mechanic fulfil both a brake fluid service and changed the coolant.
A ULEZ compliant modern classic this has predominantly remained covered when not driven however the body colour plastics have bleached in the sun and could do with a smart colour repair typical of this red but a small price to pay to have such a low mileage, low owner example. Offered with a full book pack, two keys and MoT test certificate until September. The S200 is one of the best drivers cars of the early 2000’s, if you have not driven the VTEC engine, you should and this example has all the markings of a future modern classic.
