Having covered a scant 505 miles from new, this 2002 Honda S2000 presents in nearly showroom condition with new Formula Red paint showing impeccable clarity, depth and reflection, while the black top and leather interior conspire to create a superb look. The S2000 is a superbly engineered car that was intended from the beginning to provide top-down fun and performance that rivaled that of the much more expensive Porsche Boxster while benefiting from Honda’s renowned reliability. The 2.0L/240 HP DOHC VTEC F20C inline 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed manual transmission provide a combination that is unique to the S2000.
The engine revs effortlessly to high RPMs, and the manual gearbox is a real gem, arguably one of the best to ever grace the road. The S2000’s X-Bone frame is suspended with an independent in-wheel double-wishbone suspension with iron arms, lending crisp handling reminiscent of a go-kart. Featuring 4-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, roll hoops, AM/FM/CD stereo system and a wind deflector, the S2000 is well equipped. Designed by Daisuke Sawai, the S2000 gained its incredible balance from the magic wand of Shigeru Uehara, a Honda vehicle stability and handling performance specialist noted for his work on the legendary Acura NSX.
The S2000 was Shigeru’s final project before his retirement, and the result was a magnificent testament to his talent. The 2002 version of the S2000 featured improved suspension settings, a glass rear window with an electric defroster, revised tail lights with chrome trim, upgraded stereo with separate tweeters, a leather gearshift knob, console upholstery and a revised engine-control unit. Built alongside the NSX at Honda’s Takanezawa plant, the S2000 benefits greatly from dedicated engineering, racing knowledge and assembly at a factory largely dedicated to Honda’s best.
One short spin behind the wheel of an S2000 is all it takes understand that this is a sports car like few others ever built.
