  • Single-family ownership since new
  • Rarely seen original convertible body style
  • An attractive older restoration
  • A CCCA Full Classic; ideal for Franklin Treks

100 bhp, 274.2 cu. in. L-head air-cooled six-cylinder engine, three-speed manual transmission, solid front and live rear axles with full-elliptic leaf-spring suspension, and four-wheel hydraulic brakes. Wheelbase: 125 in.

The Franklin Series 15 Convertible Coupe offered here was purchased new by the president of South Boston Savings Bank, of Boston, Massachusetts, who drove it as his primary car until his unexpected passing in the mid-1950s. The banker’s daughter and her husband inherited the car, and together, they would drive it to many different places during the summer months. As their son, the current owner, recalls, “There was a section of street near our house that would flood to a foot in depth, and we would drive through in the high-riding Franklin, waving to those stranded in the puddle. One day at a picnic, it rained on the way home, so my sister and I rode in the golf bag compartment, with the rumble seat closed!”

The car was shown and driven by the family in the area around Grand Rapids, Michigan, for some 40 years. It was rebuilt in the mid-1990s, with research performed to determine the original colors, to which the car was returned. More recently, the current third-generation owner has replaced the exhaust system, repaired the brake lines, and done some sorting of the car’s electrical system, and accordingly, the car runs and drives well. Its restoration has been well preserved and has a wonderfully authentic “of the period” appearance. Indeed, this is a Franklin that still looks much as it would have at the factory, and it would be appropriate for either CCCA CARavans or for the Franklin Club’s famous Franklin Treks.
