Packing luxury and performance into a high-tech 1980s-style package, this 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe remains in highly original, unrestored condition with just one owner until 2020. It features its original Medium Canyon Red Metallic clear coat paint and original Scarlet Red bucket-seat interior, and it retains its Ford VIN stickers on all four panels. It also features power steering and brakes, a floor-shifted, 5-speed manual overdrive transmission, computerized ride control, a premium sound system with AM/FM stereo cassette with graphic equalizer, cruise control, a tilt steering column, power windows and door locks, and air conditioning.
The Thunderbird also boasts its original, 16×7-inch, cast aluminum wheels mounting Bridgestone P225/60R-16 performance tires. The turbocharged 4-cylinder in the Thunderbird Turbo Coupe is a special version of the powerplant that featured an IHI turbocharger, electronic fuel injection and an air-to-air intercooler. It was rated at 190 HP and 240 lb-ft of torque when mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Automatics received a similar engine but with a lower 150 HP rating. This car has always been serviced at the original selling Ford dealership or the current owner's local Ford dealership.
It was recently serviced at the end of 2021, including Motorcraft lube, oil and filter, NOS Motorcraft fuel and air filters, and a front-end alignment. It also received a recent professional detail, including a paint buff. The 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe received the MotorTrend Car of the Year award in 1987, and this car comes with its Marti Report, original owner's manual, books and key card, original 1987 Ford Thunderbird brochures, original Turbo keys, an original Muscle Cars article, a clean CarFax report and receipts from Ford Dealership service.
