One of the most famous and historically significant automobiles of the 20th century, the Ford GT40 has ascended into the upper echelon of the collector car world, inspiring several companies to produce quality recreations that have become very desirable in their own right as affordable alternatives to the originals. One such company was GT Developments, Ltd. in Poole, England, which manufactured this superb recreation of the Series 1 GT40. Featuring gorgeous bodywork that closely replicates the original, it is finished in the timeless pairing of deep blue metallic paint with white Le Mans striping, a combination no doubt inspired by the iconic Shelby American racing team livery of 1965.

Flip-top fuel doors, dual outside mirrors and BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires on Compomotive modular knock-off style wheels complete the exterior appointments. Titled as a 1989 GTD, the car is powered by a Ford 289 CI small-block V-8 engine featuring a new Weber downdraft multi-carburetor setup, MSD electronic ignition, “Cobra Powered by Ford” finned aluminum valve covers and “bundle of snakes” exhaust; a 5-speed manual transmission completes the drivetrain. All-independent coilover suspension and power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes are closely patterned after those of the original.

The comfortable interior combines black upholstery with blue accents, door panel storage, gray carpeting, well-bolstered bucket seats with Simpson safety harnesses, a padded leather-rimmed steering wheel, a stereo sound system and full Smiths instrumentation. This GT Developments GT40 replica is a true thoroughbred, an excellent choice for the collector seeking to experience the excitement of the original.
