In 1985, Presidents Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev would soon be friends, Microsoft launched Windows 1.0, "Back to the Future" beat "The Goonies" at the box office, and this 1985 Ford F150 XLT Lariat Explorer pickup was sold new at Fred Jones Ford Inc. in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Ford offered its 1985 F-series and Ranger truck lineup in four Explorer packages that combined XL and XLT Lariat trims with popular options for extra savings. This Wimbledon White, two-tone delete, Explorer Package B+C pickup is fully loaded.
Package B brought XLT Lariat trim, wood-tone instrument panel applique, color-keyed carpeting, a sliding rear window and spacious map pockets to the plush blue cloth cabin. Package C added a digital clock, light and convenience groups, speed control, tilt steering and air conditioning. A factory AM/FM cassette stereo and power windows and locks sweeten the deal. A chrome grille and brushed aluminum tailgate applique with a lower, red, reflective panel section, special Explorer plaques and an exterior protection group including rubber crash pad bumpers add distinction to the classic, squared-off, ‘80s style.
The 2-wheel drive, regular cab Styleside is powered by a cost-optional High Output 351 CI V-8 backed by a C6 3-speed automatic transmission and shows a believed-accurate 43,705 miles on the odometer. A 17-inch H.O. air cleaner, a 4-barrel carburetor and low back-pressure exhaust made the 200-plus HP V-8 the one to get in 1985. Power steering and power brakes team up with twin I-beam independent front suspension for a compliant ride and rugged versatility. The top-trim, high-performance half-ton hauls down the road on aluminum alloy wheels with chrome center caps and Michelin raised white-letter radial tires.
