For many who understand them, the third generation of Ford’s trailblazing (literal and figurative) Bronco was among the best of the breed. This excellently preserved 1982 model’s first owner certainly thought so, as it was in his care for more than 30 years, up until 2018. That owner was Gary Thomas' college roommate, and this example remains in unrestored, highly original condition with just 3,500 miles rolled up since new. By 1982, the Bronco was no longer the doorless roustabout of the 1960s; it was a well-refined 4-wheel drive SUV that featured new amenities while maintaining its original intent as a “go anywhere” machine.
Sold new at Dub Richardson Ford Inc. in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the Bronco comes with its original build sheet, window sticker and owner’s manual. Under the hood is the 5.8L V-8 engine, the 351 CI mill that was the largest offered that year. This is backed by the automatic transmission, automatically locking front hubs, front and rear differentials and independent front suspension. Front and rear stabilizer bars, power steering, power brakes and factory skid plates are also underneath to aid in whatever road you’re on or off.
The body features one of Ford’s premium Victoria Tu-Tone schemes, factory painted in Dark Brown Metallic and Wimbledon White with black vinyl trim, chrome bumpers and tinted glass. The interior is done in a special Nutmeg-toned cloth and vinyl pattern, and it also has air conditioning, a cigar lighter, in-dash tach, AM/FM audio equipment and the flip-fold rear seat. The covered swing-away spare carrier is over the rear gate door. This Bronco has the factory 10-hole cast aluminum wheels and wears a set of Goodyear Wrangler Radial P235/75R15 tires. Also included will be the factory warranty and brochure paperwork, as well as the original owner card and a Marti report.
Presenting in beautiful condition, this is a Bronco that never saw ice or snow during the past 40 years it has existed, and it shows. For those looking for an unrestored piece of Ford’s heritage of Built Tough, this is the Bronco for you.
