There are Ferraris—and then there is the F40, a machine so pure, so brutally honest, it is as much a provocation as it is a car. Released in 1987 to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary, the F40 was the final model Enzo Ferrari personally approved. But this was not a farewell: It was a manifesto, a final roar from

il Commendatore

declaring what Ferrari would remain in a world growing increasingly safe, soft, and soulless.

At its heart lies a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 producing 471 horsepower, encased in a shell of Kevlar, carbon fiber, and Nomex composites. There was no luxury. No stereo. No carpets. Not even interior door handles—just a pull cord. It weighed just over 2,400 pounds and hit 60 mph in around four seconds. At launch, it was the fastest, most powerful, and most expensive Ferrari ever built. Long, low, wide, and violently functional, the F40 looks like it was sketched in a fever dream. Each vent, duct, and curve is purposeful: To slice the air, cool the engine, and glue the car to the pavement.

Its sharp angles, signature NACA ducts, and towering rear wing make it a rolling sculpture of raw aggression. Not traditionally beautiful, it remains undeniably stunning; like a fighter jet, form follows function to breathtaking effect.

Driving an F40 is a physical, even primal, experience. The clutch is heavy. The steering is unassisted. And yet, when the turbos spool and the power hits, the sensation is otherworldly. Here is a car that punishes complacency and rewards commitment, creating a connection between driver and machine that few modern cars can match.

With aggressive looks and uncompromising performance, each of the 1,315 Ferrari F40s built remains a traffic-stopping mechanical masterpiece. Yet each of these 1,315 left the factory finished in one single color, Rosso Corsa, with the example offered here, chassis 94647, being no different—at first.

CHASSIS 94647: THE ‘BLUE CHIP F40’

Completed on 29 July 1992 in the F40’s signature Rosso Corsa over Stoffa Vigogna, chassis 94647 is an Italian-market car distributed via Motor S.p.A. in Modena. It was sold just days after its completion to its first owner, flamboyant Bolognese nightlife impresario Paolo Pazzaglia, who added over 5,000 spirited kilometers (~3,106 miles) before parting with it in mid-1993. The car remained in Bologna with documented care until its export to England in early 1998.

In the UK, 94647 passed through a series of devoted custodians—including television presenter Paul Martin—where it is reported to have remained serviced and enjoyed. In 2021, a bold vision emerged: to reimagine this F40 as a bespoke celebration of performance and individuality. To complete this daring evolution, 94647 was entrusted to the UK-based supercar authorities at Furlonger Specialist Cars.

At the heart of its transformation lies a rare Michelotto-developed F40 LM racing gearbox, paired with enhanced turbo wastegates and a Tubi exhaust system to unleash the model’s legendary soundtrack. Further upgrades include a KW fully adjustable suspension with lift kit, improved air conditioning, and 355-millimeter Brembo GT brakes which necessitated enlarging the car’s signature wheels to 18 inches. This involved the creation of custom wheels that maintained the instantly recognizable five-spoke, center-lock look, preserving the F40's iconic appearance while ensuring adequate clearance for the improved brakes and tires.

Following its mechanical evolution, 94647 shed its Rosso Corsa identity and was resprayed in Azzurro Hyperion—a timeless, understated Ferrari hue that perfectly accentuates the F40’s sharp, purposeful lines. The result is the appropriately named “Blue Chip F40,” a unique reinterpretation of Ferrari’s most visceral icon, blending raw performance with modern usability and unmistakable presence. Prior to receiving its modifications, in 2013, 94647 was Ferrari Classiche Certified with its Red Book and COA noting that the body, chassis, engine, and other components remained original.

Now offered from a significant private collection, 94647 is further accompanied by its original warranty and service manual, libretto, collection of UK V5s and MOTs confirming its mileage accruement, and service invoices dating back over two decades.

Today, the F40 remains a cornerstone of automotive legend, the final analog Ferrari signed off by Enzo himself and a distillation of Maranello’s core values: Speed over comfort, emotion over convenience, and experience over ease. More than a supercar, it is a mechanical manifesto, a symbol of unfiltered passion in an increasingly digital world—virtues readily evident in the unique example offered here.
