UK-supplied in Rosso over Crema with an odometer reading of some 20,000 miles, this California has become somewhat of a social media star since the pink vinyl wrap was applied.
Introduced at the Paris Salon in 2008, the Ferrari California had been conceived as a Grand Tourer rather than an out-and-out sports car and was intended to appeal to those who might otherwise opt for a Bentley, an Aston Martin or an SL Class Mercedes-Benz. It was quite a radical move for the marque pioneering Maranello’s first front-mounted V8 engine, two-piece folding metal roof, dual clutch seven-speed transmission, direct fuel-injection and multi-link rear suspension. Styled by Pininfarina and subject to over 1,000 hours of wind tunnel testing, the new car utilised Aluminium for both its chassis and bodywork construction.
Related to that in the F430, its 4,297cc quad cam, 32-valve V8 developed some 453bhp and 358lbft of torque and was allied to the aforementioned dual clutch seven-speed transmission as standard. Less demanding to drive than its siblings and therefore more approachable during everyday, real world motoring, the notional 2+2-seater more than fulfilled its brief of attracting a whole new generation of customers to the Ferrari fold. Nevertheless, the California still brought the sense of occasion and pedigree that only a Ferrari can fulfil, and a turn of speed that comes swiftly when required, accompanied by that incomparable exhaust note.

Purchased by our vendor on the 3rd July 2020, the car was professionally wrapped in pink vinyl as a personal statement, and the subsequent media attention inspired a business model that has seen significant coverage on social media with extensive references by mainstream media, the success of which is significant, inspiring a fleet of supercars. With a similarly pink vinyl wrapped McLaren as the main focal point of our vendor’s social media and business interests, the California is regretfully offered to auction.
Whilst we acknowledge that the vinyl wrap may not be to everyone’s taste, we remind the market that the car is unique in its correct colour scheme, and beneath the vinyl wrap is the red coachwork usually associated with a Ferrari. Presented to auction with an odometer reading of 26,455 miles at the time of cataloguing, and a book pack that includes the stamped service book, with a fresh MOT in time for the sale. The private registration number illustrated, P11 VNK, does not form part of the sale.
