Beautifully presented UK-supplied 488 Spider from Ferrari's Tailor-Made programme with less than 17,000 miles from new. The 488 GTB was a bit of a departure for Ferrari, not only because the 458 Italia and Speciale had been so successful, but because it marked a change of philosophy for the company’s mid-engined supercar. Gone was the naturally aspirated 4.5-litre V8 and in its place was a smaller, direct-injection 3,902cc twin-turbocharged, flat-plane-crank V8. It was more efficient and significantly more powerful and has now become regarded as an automotive masterpiece.
What the turbocharged engine lacks in character compared with the outgoing V8, it makes up for with outrageous performance and such drivability that no matter what gear you are in or how slowly you are driving, all 661bhp and 560lb/ft of torque are instantly available. The chassis is sublime, melding unexpected levels of comfort with unflappable control and crystal-clear communication as the pace quickens and you start to build up to exploiting the remarkable performance on offer. It was only natural, given the success of the 488 GTB Berlinetta, that Ferrari would introduce an open-top model.
It utilised the same drivetrain, engine and electronics as the GTB, differing only in the modified bodywork and engineering required to accommodate the folding hardtop. Thanks to careful design, the Spider weighed only 110lbs more than its hardtop sibling, a highly impressive feat for an open car and matched the GTB’s 0-60mph in three seconds, although the top speed was slightly slower at 202mph, hardly a deal breaker. This beautiful 488 Spider dates from 2017 and is an original UK-supplied car fitted with the 3.9-litre, twin-turbo V8 mated to the state of the art, 7-speed, F1 semi-automatic transmission. STC2 tone-on-tone stitching as follows: 4,000 thread on the black parts, in Rosso 0504 on the red parts and in beige Chiaro 1209 thread on the Crema parts. Seats with racing style centre recess panels with contrasting central stripe in Rosso Ferrari leather.
