Not since the 412's demise in 1989 had Ferrari offered a '2+2', and when the 456 GT debuted at the prestigious FF40 Celebration hosted by Jacques Swaters in Belgium in September 1992 to mark the 40th Anniversary of his Garage Ferrari Francorchamps and later at the Paris Salon in October 1992, it was obvious that the long awaited newcomer eclipsed all Maranello's previous four-seat Grand Tourers.

Although new from stem to stern, the 456 GT incorporated elements familiar to generations of Ferrari cognoscenti - front-mounted four-cam V12, rear transaxle, tubular steel spaceframe chassis and all-independent suspension - while making an appearance for the first time were electronically-controlled adaptive suspension and a six-speed gearbox (there was also an optional automatic). Essentially a de-tuned version of that powering the 550 and 575, the new 5.5-litre V12 unleashed no less than 442bhp at a lowly 6,250rpm yet remained smooth and tractable from idling speed to red-line thanks to its state-of-the-art engine management system.

F40 excepted, the 456 was the most powerful road car developed by Ferrari up to that time, yet despite delivering supercar performance this relatively unstressed engine has proven to be very reliable.

For the 456, Pininfarina worked its magic once more to create a subtly beautiful curvaceous body contrasting with the hard edges of its predecessor. Although bereft of extraneous aerodynamic devices, the 456 remained stable up to its maximum of around 190mph, a figure that made it the world's fastest production four-seater passenger car. Acclaimed on its debut, the 456's styling has not dated and is a tribute to Pininfarina's far-sightedness in creating one of most successful designs of modern times. An air-conditioned interior, sumptuous Connolly leather trim, perfectly weighted power steering and Porsche-rivalling build quality all combined to make the 456GT a worthy competitor for Bentley, Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz.

A full matching-numbers example, this rare and sought-after manual transmission 456 GT was sold new in Italy in January 1995 and is currently in the hands of only its third owner. The Ferrari was registered new in Verona by the company Jeanserie Del Nord and used in the early 2000s by a Dott. Antonio Mazzara in Milan. In 2003 the 456 GT passed into the ownership of Niccolò Caissotti, Count of Chiusano, Honorary Consul and Chairman of the Association of Italian Entrepreneurs in Monaco, and a relative of the late Chairman of Juventus Football Club. In early 2019 the Ferrari was acquired by the third and current owner, who was on a diplomatic posting until he returned to Belgium in 2020.

Finished in Silver Nürburgring with dark blue hide interior, the car is presented in excellent mechanical and cosmetic order. The Ferrari comes with full ownership history, full service history (including the stamped service booklet in its original Schedoni document pouch), and accessories including the original tool kit in its Schedoni leather case, car cover (in its bag), two keys, etc. Additional documentation includes Belgian Registration documents and a Certificate of Conformity issued in Monaco.

Over the last three years, extensive works were carried out with no expense spared by respected marque specialists L'Officina in Overijse, Belgium. These works involved replacement of the valve cover gaskets; ignition leads; rear ride control dampers and their spheres; left radiator pump; windscreen washer pump; new door seals; stabilising bar links; and sound amplifier/tuner unit and front loudspeakers, together with repairs of the rear spoiler motor and air conditioning evaporator unit.

Regular servicing has included changing the timing belts (December 2020 at 113.563 kms) and fitting new tyres. Some 24 detailed bills are on file, documenting the replacement of other important parts by previous owners: new clutch in 2018; headlight control levers; alternator reconditioning; headlight pop-up motors; brake callipers; coolant temperature sensor; airflow meter; and door windows motors. The last service was carried out in July 2022 at 116.210 kms. The body was fully resprayed in 2022 with due attention to the correct black finish for the lower body, spoiler and under the bonnet.

The engine intake chambers and valve covers; road wheels; brake calliper and wheel hub covers; and the battery holder were repainted also. The original interior in blue and black Connolly leather displays a beautiful patina with no cracks; it has been thoroughly cleaned and the rear shelf re-upholstered. The car is also fitted with a genuine Nardi 15" steering wheel in dark African mahogany (the original Ferrari steering wheel is included).

Currently displaying a total of just under 120,000 kilometres from new on the odometer, this well maintained Ferrari 456 GT is presented in overall very good condition and ready to enjoy.
