Debuted at the 1976 Paris Salon, the 400 GT replaced the 365 GT4 2+2 as Ferrari’s new and luxurious four-seater grand-touring model. Featuring crisply tailored styling, the 400 GT and its predecessor established an entirely new stylistic direction for Turin’s renowned Pininfarina design and coachbuilding firm. Styling would continue with model evolution progressing through the 400 and 400i (fuel injected) models of 1976 through 1984, culminating in the 412 of 1985 to 1989. Historic as one of the longest-running series in Ferrari’s rich history, these fast and handsome grand tourers are also significant as the last front-engine V-12 cars built by Ferrari until the arrival of the 456 in 1992.

A 4823cc V-12 engine powered the 400 GT with two banks of three Weber twin-choke, side-draft carburetors, resulting in a factory power rating of 340 HP. A choice of 5-speed manual or GM-sourced Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed automatic gearboxes was available, with the majority equipped with the automatic. Fully ensconced in luxurious leather upholstery, the fortunate occupants of the 400 GT were whisked from rest to 60 MPH in 7.1 seconds with a GT-worthy top speed of 150 MPH on tap. Hand-built at Pininfarina, this 1979 Ferrari 400 GT benefits from a comprehensive, bare-metal restoration with the original body panels remaining intact.

The potent 4823cc Columbo V-12 engine was overhauled and fitted with upgraded forged pistons and reground sport camshafts, plus stainless steel valves. In addition to an electronic ignition conversion, the twin triple-choke Weber carburetors have been tuned and the factory exhaust system is ceramic-coated. An NOS wiring harness was installed and includes fuse blocks that are upgraded to accept modern ATO fuses. The TH400 automatic transmission is rebuilt, as is the air conditioning system, which has also been upgraded to modern R134 refrigerant with new compatible Parker hoses installed. The Koni suspension is also rebuilt.

In addition to Recaro seats and Navy Blue Connolly leather upholstery, this Ferrari 400 GT is equipped with an Alpine stereo system including trunk-mounted amplifiers. BBS three-piece forged wheels mounting Michelin tires provide road contact. Extensive documentation and photos are included with this “executive express” with renowned Ferrari V-12 power and performance.
