Perhaps no model range is more responsible for firmly thrusting Ferrari into the 21st Century than the 360. Originally appearing in coupé form in 1999, the 360 featured revolutionary all-aluminium construction undertaken in partnership with Alcoa. The 3.6-litre V-8 engine was constructed entirely of light alloy, employing Nikasil-treated cylinder liners and a dry-sump lubrication system to achieve almost 400 horsepower and a top speed of 295 km/h.
The aluminium bodywork styled by Pininfarina was a major departure from earlier designs, eschewing the classic egg-crate front grille for two small radiator inlets, though it did feature rear haunch scoops that drew inspiration from the 250 LM and Dino models. At the 2000 Geneva International Motor Show, Ferrari unveiled a Spider convertible version that required minimal structural reinforcement because of the technologically advanced design and, therefore, weighed only 60 kilograms more than the coupé.
The 2004 Ferrari 360 Spider on offer left the Maranello factory finished with a stunning Giallo Modena exterior over a Nero leather interior complemented by racing seats. Optional extras included a Challenge rear grille and Scuderia Ferrari championship logo. The car was also equipped with a six-CD changer and the soft-top hood was configured in Nero. Most importantly, the engine is connected to a highly desirable six-speed manual transmission controlled through the classic gated shift lever for the purest Ferrari driving experience.
Delivered new via Garage Foitek AG of Urdorf in April 2004, with its first owner a resident of nearby Zurich, the car shows 46,538 kilometres on the odometer at the time of cataloguing. This 360 Spider is accompanied by a tool kit, Ferrari books and manuals, and roll-hoop windscreens. In addition, the service book contains a robust collection of stamps certifying a consistent maintenance history for the vehicle. The most recent work includes an annual service performed by Niki Hasler AG in February 2024.
As easy on the eye as it is thrilling to drive, this open, rear-mid-engined, naturally aspirated Ferrari would make for a spectacular addition to any collection.
