The boys at Dodge called it a “Boss Hoss,” and the 1966-67 Chargers were first-generation vehicles that spoke to the performance-minded buyer. While this 1967 Dodge Charger still represents that ideal on the outside even today, it also features a considerable level of changes that will make today’s buyers also take notice. Though 1967 saw the first offering of the new 440 Magnum in the Charger, this model is equipped with a 547 CI V-8 RB-design stroker wedge engine that’s so new it still has break-in oil in it.
Mounted using a Magnum engine plate plus the K-member, the bottom end includes a forged 4340 crankshaft and forged 4340 H-beam connecting rods with ARP bolts and forged Diamond 10.8:1 compression pistons. A hydraulic roller cam with roller rockers operates valves within the aluminum TrickFlow cylinder heads, and a Holley Stealth fuel injection layout is perched upon a single-plane intake manifold under the air cleaner. Headers feeding dual exhaust and MSD ignition is also part of it. This is backed by an A727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission with Gear Vendors overdrive, while a Strange Dana 60-type rear end completes it.
Equipped with a professional-style roll cage, this car now has a modified lowered suspension as well as rear minitubs and 4-wheel disc brakes. The unmistakable crisp-edge exterior is refinished in silver, highlighting the vertical rib grille and red full-width tail lamp lens. The interior retains the four bucket seats, which are redone in black leather and feature red contrast stitching and both front and rear console armrests. There is also a factory floor shifter, LCD Holley control panel, customized audio with a Type R subwoofer with crossovers and Focal speakers, special controls, a luminescent dash cluster and a three-spoke steering wheel.
With window tinting and shaved emblems, the exterior looks Space Age but retains the deck-inlaid and grille-mounted Dodge logos. The finishing touch here is the set of custom, split Hot Rods by Boyd five-spoke alloy wheels in burnished metal with wide radial tires. The Charger remains one of Dodge’s most beloved vehicles, and this Boss Hoss has been rebuilt and is ready to run with the best of them.
