It might have seemed unlikely to top the 2018 Dodge Demon’s 9-second potential, but then along came the possible 8-second quarter-mile times from its successor, the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 offered here shows just 75 miles on its odometer and is Demon No. 0801. Exclusively released during the Last Call series as the Challenger body platform was being retired, the optional use of E85 ethanol in place of normal gasoline plus its new high-flow injectors, reworked computer controllers and bigger 3.0L IHI twin-screw blower, meant the supercharged 6.2L Hemi V-8 engine was rated at a huge 1,025 HP maximum.
Engine performance on every Demon is further aided by the special Power Chiller and After-Run Chiller, and the engine here is backed up with an 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission with transbrake, a limited-slip differential, adjustable competition suspension, line-lock, and launch control with launch assist. There are Brembo disc brakes behind all four wheels to slow it down. Speed costs money, and ordering the SRT Demon 170 Package was a $20,466 option, which also mandated the SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody Package, an additional $14,605 surcharge.
Despite a base cost of just under $100,000 before any additional add-ons, the premium did not deter the last-time model from selling out quickly. The car wears Pitch Black paint, with the rear body flares and Air Grabber hood being trademark-like accents to this model only. Thanks to the $5,995 Premium Group, inside are 170 leather and Alcantara ventilated front seats, carbon fiber interior accents, suede headliner, premium-stitched dash panel, an SRT Alcantara steering wheel with the red LED logo, and the Harman Kardon 18-speaker premium audio system with GreenEdge amplifier and subwoofer.
That is controlled by the 8.4-inch Uconnect screen, while other driver assists include rain-sensitive wipers, a power tilt and telescopic steering column, blind spot and rear cross-path detection, and a remote start system. With sound insulation delete and special 18×8 front and 17×11 rear forged aluminum wheels using Mickey Thompson drag radials, the Demon is ready for however its new owner plans to fill it up and go fast.
