The Mulholland Edition of the Chrysler Prowler, produced back in 2001, was named in honor of the street in Southern California known by the same title. Now, more than two decades later, this one-owner car shows 1,230 miles on its odometer and remains in highly original, unmodified condition. Like the other special Prowlers, the special package was done as an accent group. Chrysler, which had absorbed Plymouth by this time, produced a limited run of 1,281 Prowlers featuring this unique appearance that included the special Mulholland Blue exterior paint and a matched blue soft top.
For power, the car’s 3.5L SOHC 24-valve V-6 engine, which had been used since production began, is rated at 253 HP and nicely fitted into the wedge-shaped front end design. A 4-speed automatic rear transaxle connects to this via a torque tube and is operated with the car’s AutoStick shifter. The Prowler, assembled by hand at the Connor Avenue plant in Detroit, used a special aluminum chassis structure with a coil-sprung double wishbone suspension layout, power rack-and-pinion steering and power disc brakes as its underpinnings. The Mulholland Edition’s paint is accented by a blue pinstripe and features rich Agate Black leather upholstery.
In a nod to the past, the gauge design is centered in the dash, using white dial faces with some digital enhancements. The tachometer is an Auto Meter version that is column mounted in easy view of the driver. Amenities include air conditioning, cruise control, remote mirrors and a power top, windows and locks. There is an impressive seven-speaker Infinity sound system with a six-disc CD changer as well. The exterior retains the look of all Prowlers with the small front fenders, split front and rear bumpers, hoops above the seat backs and a set of polished five-spoke wheels staggered in Hot Rod fashion in 17- and 20-inch sizes. The Prowler is also accompanied by the original window sticker.
The Prowler disappeared the following year. This Mulholland Edition is a tribute to Hot Rodding’s roots with great 21st-century appeal.
