The Chrysler 300 “letter cars” continued the tradition of the Duesenberg and Packard, powerful luxury machines built for speed and rendered with artistry. Named for the 300 horsepower Hemi that powered the 1955 original, the Chrysler 300 was a progenitor of the first muscle-car era, offering bold styling, leading-edge engineering and turbine-like power in a distinctly American machine that rivals the '30s classics for desirability.
Part of the Reggie Jackson collection, this 1961 Chrysler 300G is powered by the new-for-1961 413/375 HP Wedge V-8 engine, which was topped with a massive dual-quad carburetor cross-ram induction system that spanned almost the entire width of the spacious engine compartment and added 45 lb-ft to the engine’s torque output. The 300G’s interior was as opulent as any of the time, in this case strikingly finished in Red leather with Black dash and carpets. The front bucket seats swivel outward for ease of ingress and egress.
A high console fitted with front and rear armrest/storage compartments extends the full length of the cabin, and the dash full-on '50s-era futuristic, with space-age styling details, push-button controls for the transmission and heat/ventilation system, the unique “Astra-Dome” instrument cluster. Restored to as-original, and skillfully finished in Formal Black over solid original sheet metal, it displays excellent fit and finish, with expert detailing in the engine compartment and undercarriage. Other highlights include air conditioning, power steering and brakes, power windows and locks, push-button radio, tinted glass and chromed wires with wide Whitewall tires.
