In the Old West, the adage was “never bring a knife to a gun fight.” This stunningly-subtle vehicle isn’t a gun, but it’s certainly not a knife either; it’s an automotive mortar round packaged up around a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ 4×4. The Tahoe itself needs little introduction as a popular all-around-use vehicle, but the Callaway SC450 option took the factory engineering to a whole new level. Best-known for its high-performance Corvettes, Callaway-modified super trucks are very nicely retrofitted for both appearance and performance, which in this case is a stealth-like configuration. This model year was the first of Callaway’s adaption of its modification program to SUV and pickup trucks.
This example shows 62,000 miles and has a clean CarFax report. Under the hood, the horsepower program was primarily the reworking of the factory 5.3L engine option, which is retrofitted with a Roots-style Eaton TVS supercharger resulting in a 150 HP boost to 450 HP. This includes an air/liquid intercooler integral to the intake manifold coupled to Callaway-logo carbon-fiber injector covers, a proprietary high-flow intake system and low-restriction exhaust system. Coupled to the Tahoe’s 4-wheel-drive layout, this LTZ-packaged vehicle includes fog lamps, a power lift gate, running boards and a factory sunroof.
There is also rear parking assist, power-adjustable pedals and trailer-sway control, in case you decide to tow with it. The exterior is covered in black with custom Callaway touches and badging including the word “SUPERCHARGED” on the special hood and unique “CALLAWAY” grille tagging, plus tinted glass all around and a blacked-out front Bowtie emblem. The inside features a Bose Sound System with XM radio capability, Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, cruise control and Callaway embroidered headrests and floor mats.
This Tahoe is completed by 4-wheel disc brakes and special chrome-spoked wheels, while provenance includes the Callaway under-hood plaque showing the vehicle ID number and Callaway authenticity documentation. Ready to go wherever you do, this super truck represents the legacy of a noteworthy aftermarket builder yet completes a fast draw only when you want it to.
