In 1990, GM made a bold move and put a 454-cubic-inch Mark IV big block in their short-bed, regular-cab, C1500 series truck. The large V8 engine produced 230 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque. Paired to a 3-speed automatic transmission, the 454 pushed the truck to an 8-second 0-60MPH time. The 454SS performance package added a heavy-duty radiator, separate coolers for engine oil and transmission fluid, Bilstein shocks, quick-ratio steering, heavy front anti-roll bar, blacked-out grille, and six-slot chrome wheels with 275/60R15 tires. 16,953 454SS trucks were built in 1990, finished only in an Onyx black exterior with red accents.
The interior is a striking red color with cloth seating. With only 5,873 original miles, this low-mile, original example is a step back into the pinnacle of high-performance trucks of the 90’s.
