Founded by turbocharging expert Reeves Callaway, Callaway Cars of Old Lyme, Connecticut, gained the attention of GM Chief Engineer Don Runkle and Corvette Chief Engineer Dave McLellan in 1985 with the help of Car and Driver magazine’s Don Sherman. Callaway’s mission was to develop a factory-approved, twin-turbo Corvette supercar while the ZR1 was still under development. By June 1986, the Callaway twin-turbo Corvette was designated RPO B2K—the first and only RPO code ever issued to a non-GM manufacturer.
Available through participating Chevrolet dealers, it was even covered by a full GM warranty. the 25th anniversary of the original B2K Corvettes built by Callaway, a special 25-car run of 25th Anniversary Edition Corvettes was produced for 2012, based on the already potent and rare C6 Corvette Grand Sport. This very special example is Car No. 19 of the 25 produced (plus one pilot car), and it’s powered by a GM LS3 6.2L V-8 engine equipped with a TVS2300 roots-style supercharger, intercooler, high-flow intake and Double-D stainless exhaust.
In concert with a 6-speed manual transmission, the Callaway-massaged engine is rated at 620 HP and 555 lb-ft of torque, the most ever produced by an LS3-powered Callaway Corvette to that time. Performance is electrifying and includes a manufacturer-validated quarter-mile time of 10.9 seconds at 127 MPH. Finished in striking Cyber Gray, No. 19 also features Callaway carbon fiber injector covers bearing Reeves Callaway’s autograph, a tachometer, 200 MPH speedometer, power-adjustable seats, windows and door locks, Callaway-logo floor mats, red Corvette brake calipers and Callaway black chrome wheels mounting Michelin Pilot Sport extreme-performance tires.
While featuring discreet 25th Anniversary Edition emblems on the front-fender air vents, the carbon fiber hood bulge with “Supercharged” emblem boldly declares the magic lurking under the hood of this very special Corvette. Bearing RPO B2K, as with the original 1987-1991 Callaway Corvettes, this 2012 Corvette Callaway 25th Anniversary Edition with 1,560 miles is an exceptionally rare example in every possible respect.
