During a meticulous and correct restoration, this 1962 Chevrolet Corvette Fuelie Convertible was repainted in factory-correct Ermine White. The black interior has been restored and hosts a clock, Wonderbar radio, bucket seats and a floor shifter with a white, Hurst ball-style shift knob. The matching-numbers, fuel-injected 327/360 HP V-8 engine is fitted with the correct fuel injection unit and backed by a 4-speed manual transmission, marking it as the raciest, most powerful Corvette available that year. Rolling on white stripe tires, steel wheels are topped with spinner hubcaps.
When Chevrolet slipped its all-new V-8 engine between the fenders of the Corvette in 1955, it favorably shifted the public’s perception of the car. But when it introduced a wholly restyled Corvette for 1956, it gave American sport scar buyers what they were looking for—a durable, dependable, fast car with exceptional handling characteristics that could be driven daily, thanks to real glass roll-up side windows, exterior door handles, a much better convertible top, improved interior ergonomics, enhanced insulation, sound deadening and more.
The body was new and featured two-tone paint and extensive use of brightwork for a decidedly American sports car interpretation, all of which proved to be the formula that worked. Sales increased each year, ushering the first generation to its final year of production in 1962 with great success, with 1963 introducing an entirely new Corvette.
