Loosely translated from French, “revenant” means returning, or “revenir” to come back. The Celts, Norse and, of course, the French often used the word in tales to refer to a spirit or even a kind of zombie that had been revived from death to haunt the living. Such is the name of this 1960 Corvette, Revenant. Stretched over a 4130 chromoly birdcage-style tube frame by Paul Newman’s Car Creations, Alf Ebberoth of Performance Automotive in Seaside, California, built the extensively customized body for this 1960 Corvette.
Among other fascinating nuances, the rear quarters were widened by 3 inches on each side, the undercarriage is belly-panned and paneled, and the one-piece front end tilts forward electrically. Fitted with composite front and rear bumpers, the windscreen is lower and more aggressively raked than stock and sans a topper. Empire Auto Restorations in Sand City, California, was tasked with the final fit and finish, and sprayed the car in the unique color of Titanium Silver with a chrome effects coating. The burgundy leather interior was custom crafted by Sid Chavez and features a hand-fabricated dashboard and trim.
VDO gauges have been installed, and a three-spoke steering wheel loosely resembling the original has been wrapped with brown leather and perched atop a Flaming River custom steering column. The chassis is built with a Newman C4 rear suspension with 4.10 gears, carbon fiber halfshafts and RideTech shocks. Up front is a modified C4 suspension with composite springs on RideTech shocks. All around, stopping is courtesy of Baer 4-wheel disc brakes with 6-piston calipers, and a custom 16-gallon fuel tank has been installed.
The completely smoothed, custom fabbed and painted engine compartment is home to a Ron Davis aluminum radiator and a Z06 427 CI LS7 aluminum V-8 engine from a 2014 Corvette and a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission. Modified by Imagine Injection, the FAST fuel system is set with eight throttle bodies, and the engine breathes through custom stainless-steel headers and a dual exhaust system with Magnaflow mufflers.
