The ZL1 nameplate was revived by Chevrolet in 2012, denoting the release of its latest ultimate Camaro. This 2013 model is not only a ZL1 high performance fifth-generation F-body but a convertible to boot, of which just 23 of the 541 constructed were painted in silver, making it the lowest production paint color released that year. Of course, wearing that nameplate also meant power would need to prove itself, and it certainly does so here, courtesy of the LSA 6.2L/580 HP supercharged V-8 engine. This well-designed engine is completely capable of living up to the original ZL1 heritage.
In addition to its engine oil cooler and performance exhaust tone, this Camaro also has a functional front splitter and rear spoiler, making this Camaro more than a straight-line stomper. These act in conjunction with the factory-developed Magnetic Ride Control suspension and Performance Traction Management to ensure corners can be handled just as aggressively as acceleration. Moreover, the front aero enhancements, sport hood and soft top offer a touch of black contrast to the silver exterior, which blends beautifully with this car’s interior.
Inside, the factory suede package includes accents on the steering wheel, Camaro-callout shift handle and shift boot, and the ZL1 interior showcases various first-generation Camaro legacy styling cues as well. Of course, comfort here includes black microfiber heated power seats with red stitching, dual-zone climate control and cruise control, as well as power steering, brakes, windows, locks and mirrors. Exclusive ZL1 callouts on the exterior are found on the grille, fenders, tail panel and exclusive brake calipers, and this car rides on a set of 20-inch forged aluminum 10-spoke wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. The car has traveled just 1,330 miles since new.
It can be difficult to live up to the legends of the past, but Chevrolet engineered everything and more into the 21st century ZL1 Camaro.
