After 12 long years, the legendary Camaro Z/28 made its return in 2014. It was 'ready to rumble' and once again held the honor of being the official Indy 500 Pace Car. Originally introduced in 1967, Camaro Z/28 was designed to compete in the SCCA's Trans Am 2 class. Lightweight, nimble and incredibly powerful, the original Z/28 was an incredible track car. This performer carries the same racing credentials, running a lap around Nurbürgring in an impressive 7:37.47 in inclement weather. The hand-assembled LS7 engine boasts an amazing 505hp and 481 ft/lbs of torque, making it the most powerful normally aspirated, regular-production small-block V8 ever at the time of production.

The highest-quality parts and precision assembly elevate the redline level to 7,000 rpm. The LS7 is mated to a Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual with close-ratio gearing - optimized for the engine's power characteristics. A 5.1:1-ratio short-throw shifter ensures quick and precise shifts. Power gets to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential, which features a helical gear set rather than traditional clutch packs. Coupled with the Performance Traction Management (PTM) system, drivers can adjust the level of throttle and brake intervention to match their capability and driving environment. The Z/28 features a cooling system designed for the track.

This awesome-performing, regular-production automobile is one of two specially outfitted Z/28 pace cars in the GM collection (with track-mandated safety equipment) prepared and tastefully decaled to pace the 2014 Indy 500.
