In 1969, Chevrolet introduced the Blazer as its entry into the ever-growing sport utility market, which was dominated largely by AMC Jeep and International Harvester. Ford introduced the Bronco in 1966 and saw good success with it, and Chevrolet wanted its share of that success. The Blazer was a major success. It was larger and more finished than the Bronco, offering more amenities and a more civilized package that was at home off-road or on the boulevard. Sporty, it transcended markets and enticed people who otherwise had no desire to have a truck to try a sport utility.
For 1973, along with the rest of the Chevrolet truck line, a newly styled Blazer was introduced promising better build quality, improved engineering, an array of powertrains, an ocean of options and a healthy dose of standard amenities, all culminating to create a wonderfully inviting truck. The design of the 1973 Blazer would span through 1991 with only minor changes, marking it as one of the longest running, most successful vehicles ever marketed by General Motors. This 1985 K5 Blazer is presented in wonderfully original condition with 67,780 miles showing on the odometer, which is believed to be original.
Still sporting its original body panels, the removable rear top has never been removed and the K5 has only been repainted once in black, the factory-correct color. Powered by a 350 CI V-8 engine with the original automatic transmission, the K5 is a 4-wheel drive vehicle complete with power steering and power brakes. Rolling on blackwall off-road tires wrapping the factory-original Rally wheels with Warn locking hubs, the interior presents as nicely as the exterior. Upholstered in dark red cloth, the interior allows passengers to enjoy the center console, bucket seats, air conditioning and full instrumentation among other features.
