For 1941, Cadillac embraced numerous changes to its cars. Consolidation was going on at GM, and Cadillac graciously joined the movement, blending some styling cues with lesser GM marques while adding its own elements to stand apart from the family. As cars began to resemble one another a little more closely, Bill Mitchell, a young designer at GM, worked hard at modernizing Cadillac and adding a bit of distance by design from the other brands. His work on the 1938 Cadillac was a smash hit. As Cadillac was GM’s prestige marque, it was universally agreed that it should be given a little extra attention. The 1941 was another rousing success.

It became an iconic design, and still today is considered to be one of the most recognized and significant cars built by Cadillac. With an entirely new body style, the new-for-1941 cars were much more modern by design, engineering, and marketing. Gone were the 12- and 16-cylinder cars, replaced by a single V-8 measuring out to 346 CI and producing 150 HP, and for those who could afford the additional coin, a fully automatic transmission was available for the first time. Headlights were now integrated into the fenders, and a more square appearance emerged with an egg-crate grille occupying the bulk of the nose.

A fastback coupe was available, as was a handsome convertible with an elegantly sloping rear deck, but the sedan was arguably the most sedate, handsome and businesslike. This 1941 Series 62 Sedan features a body by Fisher and interior by Fleetwood. Presented with professionally re-plated chrome, the Light Yellow bodes well against the Tan interior, and the entire package shows well. Previously part of the Klairmont Kollection, it features front and rear roll-out wind wing windows, a column-shifted 3-speed manual transmission, fresh-air temperature control, in-dash clock, push-button AM radio, dual spotlights, fender skirts and wide whitewall tires.
