Cadillac made great strides in styling for 1941. For the first time, headlights were fully integrated into the front fenders, and a horizontal-theme grille stretched from side to side. The hood was made front-opening for the first time, and the gas tank filler was hidden in the left rear taillight, a feature that became a Cadillac hallmark. Hydra-Matic, General Motors’ new fully automatic transmission, became available for the first time.
While many manufacturers have offered convertibles only in their most expensive series, Cadillac’s sole soft top was usually in the mid-level 62 Series. Such was the case in 1941, when this handsome model was manufactured. Equipped with a vacuum-powered convertible top, it was available only as a Deluxe model, which included rear fender skirts, wheel trim, and other decor items.
The convertible coupe offered here is recorded on its factory build sheet, a copy of which is on file, as having been delivered new by Kickels Motor Sales of Gary, Indiana. While presently wearing a very nice older restoration in Valcour Maroon with a tan leather interior and tan cloth top, its original specification may spur a new owner to refinish it per the build sheet. It was specified in Antoinette Blue with beige and blue leather interior, and an instrument panel, steering column, and hand brake lever all specially finished in Corlear Blue. Originally the car was fitted with a three-speed transmission, though a Hydra-Matic has been installed for ease of driving enjoyment.
Other original options include an AM radio and heater. The car is accompanied by about 18 years of California registrations from former owner Robert Renwick.
The current owner has had new lifters installed and the car serviced, and has driven it extensively around his winter home in California; he reports that it runs and drives very well. It is an excellent example for enjoying the fine performance and drivability of one of the most popular of all CCCA Full Classics.
