Marking a comprehensive push by Cadillac to consolidate its leadership of America’s luxury-car industry, the elite GM Division’s new models for 1938 rank firmly among the very finest automobiles of the prewar era. In addition to delivering handsomely restyled models, Cadillac’s 1941 lineup was once again V-8 powered across the board, utilizing the marque’s proprietary and well-proven 346 CI engine. Choice mechanical updates and upgrades enhanced the already well-respected Cadillac driving and user experience. Riding a commanding, yet rational, 136-inch wheelbase chassis, the Series 75 served as the top Cadillac model offering for 1941. According to Maurice D.
Hendry’s authoritative book “Cadillac – Standard of the World,” just 2,104 Series 75 chassis were produced in total for model year 1941. General Motors’ renowned Fleetwood coachworks was the sole body builder for the Series 75, aside from the five bare chassis and 150 long-wheelbase commercial chassis produced. The 7-Passenger Style 7553 Imperial Sedan was the most “numerous” body style by Cadillac standards, with just 757 produced for 1941, including this splendid example offered here.
Powered by an LS V-8 paired with an automatic transmission, this tastefully updated Series 75 Fleetwood Imperial Sedan appropriately features a black exterior finish with Art Deco-inspired three-bar fender trim accents to the front and rear fender sides. Exterior accents include the stylish chrome egg-crate grille, twin horn grilles, a Flying Goddess hood mascot, hood and body-side trim, and front and rear chrome bumpers with bumper guards. The cloth-upholstered interior features a stylish two-spoke steering wheel, a front bench seat, a sofa-like rear seat with armrests and cigar lighters on each side, and a pair of folding jump seats.
An updated, period-style AutoMeter speedometer with a black dial face is an appropriate upgrade, as are the power steering and 4-wheel disc brakes. Polished wheel covers mounting wide whitewall tires provide the finishing touches.
