Through the 1960s, as Cadillac sales continued to rise and dominate the American luxury field, executives felt it was time for several changes in 1964. The new model year brought about a series of alterations for the new Cadillac, of which the most notable were improvements in the engine bay. The bore and stroke increased to 4.13-inches and 4-inches respectively, which increased the size of the engine to 429 cubic inches. As a result, horsepower rose to 340 at 4,600-rpm, and torque increased by 50 pound feet to 480 at 3,000-rpm, all of which allowed for a top speed of 122-mph.

Along with the changes in performance came changes in comfort and style. The new revamped body was half an inch longer, the vertical taillight bezels received a slight bend in the center, and larger panels integrated into the car’s lower grille replaced the small round 1963 headlights. The most notable styling improvement came with the newly renamed Fleetwood Eldorado, where the famed Cadillac rear fender skirts were replaced by a much sportier open-wheel look. The biggest change for 1964, arguably the advent of Comfort Control technology, was the industry’s first fully automatic climate control system. The introduction of such innovations coupled with the upgraded performance levels helped Cadillac remain atop the American luxury market.

One of only 1,870 examples produced, the Fleetwood offered here is finished in green with a two-tone matching green cloth and leather interior.
