The Cadillac Eldorado had been on sale for just a single model year by the time the second generation was announced in 1954. A lower price point quadrupled sales and firmly established the Eldorado, a model which would live on through an incredible 12 generations until 2002. For 1955 Harley Earl added enlarged tailfins, full rear-wheel cutouts, 'Saber Spoke' cast aluminium and steel wheels, and yet more chrome. Under that football field-sized hood was an uprated 331-cubic inch overhead valve V8 making 270 bhp, a useful 20 bhp increase over the standard Cadillac 331 motor, thanks to a pair of four-barrel Carter carburettors.
The four-speed Hydra-Matic transmission featured, and options included air-conditioning, hearting, fog lamps, a remote-control trunk, six-way power adjustable seats, and a signal-seeking AM radio. Just 3,950 Eldorados were built for Cadillac's wealthiest client in 1955, making them eminently collectable in the modern day. This stunning Eldorado, finished in black with a red leather interior, was imported from the United States in 1995 by its current owner.
At the time, it showcased an impressive specification, including dual quad carburettors, the original batwing air cleaner, parade boot, sabre wheels, half-moon continental kit, power top, power seat, power steering, power brakes, and power windows. It is offered with its original Fahrzeugbrief (German registration document), its Fahrzeugschein regularly stamped for technical inspections from 2003 to 2011, its former US Californian title, customs documentation, owner's manual, and a few maintenance notes and parts invoices. The car has been professionally maintained in the owner's private workshop.
However, while it has benefited from regular care, it has been kept on static display in recent years. As such, it will require recommissioning before being returned to road use.
