The 1949 Buick Super was the first year of a new body design that would be used by Buick until 1953. It shared the C-Body platform with the legendary Buick Roadmaster but rode on a shorter wheelbase of 121 inches. Featuring the iconic Buick “VentiPorts,” the Super took styling cues from the Roadmaster but was offered at a lower price, making it the solid mid-range Buick of the era.
The Buick Super convertible offered here is in a fine state of preservation, never having been fully restored. It has been repainted once, approximately 40 years ago, in its original black finish and still presents outstandingly well with excellent original chrome. A new red leather interior in the correct grain and new red carpet was installed in January 2017. The car is equipped with the desirable factory-optional fog lights and spotlight, and the Dynaflow transmission has been fully rebuilt for trouble-free motoring.
In addition to being a rust-free, solid automobile, this exceptional example of Flint’s finest also offers an interesting history. It is believed to have been sold new in Virginia. Over the following 27 years, it changed hands between three owners, all of whom lived on the very same block! The residents of that neighborhood no doubt recognized the quality and elegance of this beautiful Buick.
Fully serviced with a rebuilt transmission and newer tires, this Buick Super Convertible is offered with just 51,000 miles on the odometer. Given the cleanliness of the chassis and solid nature of the car, it is believed that this is the original mileage. Included with the sale are the original owner’s guide, top instruction manual, and various registration documents through 1967. This time capsule automobile makes a fine choice for showing or touring and is ready to be enjoyed.
