Buick effectively redesigned the personal luxury segment with the introduction of the Reatta, a low-volume two-seat luxury tourer that featured curvy styling and luxury appointments with an economical, yet sporting front-wheel drive powertrain that featured a 3.8L V-6 engine and 4-speed automatic transaxle. Buick intended the Reatta as an affordable alternative to the Mercedes-Benz 560SL, but it was not a sports car in the traditional sense. It was aimed as a comfortable, practical car that could be used for comfortable, long-distance travel with an ample trunk and storage bins behind the seats.
Based on a shortened version of the E-Body platform shared with the larger Riviera, the Reatta featured a 4-wheel independent suspension with 4-wheel disc brakes and ABS. It sat on a 98.5-inch wheelbase and was a trim 183.7 inches in length with a curb weight of just under 3,400 pounds. Power came from a 165 HP version of the familiar 3.8L Buick EFI V-6, and just 7,009 Reattas were built in 1989, all of which were coupes. This particular red 1989 Reatta with a tan interior is a high-quality example of a car that is becoming difficult to find in top condition.
The odometer reads 49,707 miles and it features power steering, power disc brakes, a leather bucket seat interior with console and floor shifter, a digital gauge cluster and center screen, power windows, locks and mirrors, a power sunroof, rear storage compartments, pop-up headlamps, tinted glass and alloy wheels mounting blackwall radial tires. This Reatta would make for a great classic that will deliver comfort and a unique look.
