First presented to the public at the 2009 International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany, the strikingly futuristic BMW i8 went into production in 2014 on the leading edge of contemporary hybrid automotive technology and today remains as fresh as ever in design and execution. Driven just 220 miles and presenting in impressive condition, it is characterized by aerodynamic styling that remains fresh today, with swing-up scissor doors highlighting its advanced aero design.
BMW’s 1.5L/369 HP TwinPower turbocharged inline 3-cylinder engine with hybrid drive and a 6-speed automatic transmission headline its all-wheel drive powertrain, which uses the gas-powered engine to drive the rear wheels and electric motors to drive the front. Sizzling Fire Orange paint cloaks the wind-sculpted exterior along with black and gray aero accents, its Bridgestone Potenza-shod 20-inch light alloy 516 mixed wheels sheltering matching Fire Orange brake calipers. The color combination is reflected in reverse in the Roadster’s equally futuristic two-place interior, which beckons with a power-operated convertible top over Amido Black leather with contrasting Kyalami Orange stitching.
Heated leather power front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters lead the list of interior features that include keyless entry, a head-up display, Harman Kardon stereo with HD radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay connectivity, USB, Bluetooth, navigation and a universal garage door opener.
