In 1980, the new Bentley Mulsanne promised to epitomise the very spirit of Bentley motoring by offering ample performance combined with complete comfort. The name "Mulsanne" is derived from Bentley's famous history, which included five victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans between 1924 and 1930 - the 'Mulsanne Straight' being the stretch of the Le Mans race track where cars reach their highest speeds.

The Mulsanne shared the traditional 6.75 litre Rolls-Royce V8 with aluminium alloy cylinder heads of its predecessor the Bentley T2. Later production would see the two SU carburettors being replaced by Bosch fuel injection on all cars from 1986. All Mulsannes retained the use of a 3-speed automatic transmission.

By 1987 the Mulsanne was looking stale so the company decided to spice it up with the introduction of the Mulsanne "S'. Many details were carried over from the mid-production Turbo R, including the alloy wheels, classic interior and the firmed up suspension for a more sporting ride, yet with the withdrawal of the turbocharger. The exterior design changes included the replacement of the rectangular headlamps from the 1980s to quad round units in 1989. Manufacturing carried on until 1992 with the total production of the Mulsanne S remaining beneath 1000 units.

The 1990 Bentley Mulsanne "S' offered here is understood to have been supplied from new by Jack Barclay in London's Mayfair to one Lady Wolfson, who with her husband Leonard, were founder trustees of the Wolfson Foundation in 1955.

Specified in Bentley Green with gold stripes and with a contrasting cream leather interior which has gracefully shouldered the test of time, this car further benefits from being fitted with an oval Hooper rear window, and of course, sheepskin rugs fitted in the foot-wells.

The vendor, who has owned and enjoyed the car for the past 3 years assures us that it has been well maintained throughout its life and accordingly it boasts an ample service history to document its circa 75,000 miles. Only advancing years and more limited opportunities to use and enjoy the car now see it reluctantly offered for sale.
