We are delighted to offer a fine example of a 1973 Alfa Romeo Montreal. To consider the purchase of one of these 1970s supercars, it would be wise to buy the very best you can and with that in mind, we believe, this is one of the very best presented to you today. According to the Alfa Romeo archives, this was manufactured on 30th March, 1973 and sold in Rimini, Italy on 15th May, 1973 with the body colour of AR601 (orange) with black cloth interior. In April 2006, it had the honour of being awarded the highly regarded ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano) certification, which only the finest and most correct examples are awarded.
In 2008, the car was discovered, purchased and imported into the UK by James Wheeler of Black and White Garage. James Wheeler is a well-respected aficionado of the marque and had spent considerable time sourcing an example that was not only excellent but also un-abused.
After its arrival and registration in the UK, several improvements were carried out to enhance the experience and reliability, these include; a complete overhaul of the suspension with the fitment of new bushes and an Alfaholics handling kit, an Alfaholics stainless-steel sports exhaust system (excluding manifolds), an Alfaholics aluminium billet steering box and rebuilt steering idler and the fitment of Ferodo DS2500 brake pads. In March 2012, Wes Ingram in Washington, USA, a leading expert in the field, rebuilt the SPICA fuel injection pump and injectors, the pump being calibrated and bench tested.
In addition, in October 2013, Montreal expert, Robert Thompson of High Performance Restorations, carried out a thorough engine tune and health check. In November 2013, the vendor purchased the Montreal from Black and White Garage and, has since, maintained the car to the highest level without consideration to cost. In this time works have included new Michelin XWX tyres, Alfaholics upgraded brakes, annual servicing and a service of the factory fitted air conditioning system with modern coolant amongst many other items recorded within the most extensive history file. This Alfa Romeo Montreal has been featured in several articles and in particular, Auto Italia.
We strongly recommend that you view the history file and note the invoices of works, old MoT test certificates, an Alfa Romeo Owner’s Club valuation of £60,000 plus, dated October 2014, a copy of the original Italian registration document, two owners’ instruction books, one in Italian and the other in English, various article and correspondences, a fresh MoT test certificate and a record of the most recent service carried out in October 2017.
The concept of this model was first seen at the 1967 Montreal Expo but it was not until two years later, and adopting the 1967 Expo’s hosting city name, that Bertone’s elegant coupé first saw production. With a de-tuned Tipo 33 V8 race engine, the Montreal certainly combined a futuristic design with high performance. Even today, the Montreal may cause a drawing of breath when first viewed. Presented in very good order throughout and in particular, this is an excellent driving example which may be attributed as a result of the fastidious owners carrying out the enormous amount of work and expenditure with the aim of achieving a V8 Supercar that drives and handles as fabulously as it looks.
That goal has most certainly been achieved resulting with this Alfa Romeo Montreal surely being one of the finest driving examples in existence.
